Microsoft Windows 10 Creators Update Insider preview build 15042 is now available for Fast Ring Insiders. However, many Insiders are now reporting issues with the latest insider build.

Insiders are reporting issues like error 0xC1900401, Windows Update build 15042 hung at “Initializing…” or download stuck at 0%. Also, users are facing no audio, high CPU/disk usage, and Edge crash issues after installing the new build. We have posted some workarounds for these issues here.

During the 15042 install, your PC may “hang” and become unresponsive at the Windows boot logo screen. During the start of the install, one of the required processes may initialize but not complete or timeout, thus causing the “hang”.

Workaround Steps

    Type Command Prompt
Right-click Command Prompt (desktop app) in the results listSelect Run as Administrator
    Click Yes to confirm
  4. One line at a time, paste these commands into the command prompt window.  Press enter after each line:reg delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\setup\upgrade\nsimigrationroot /fnetsh int ipv6 set locality state=disablereg delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Nsi\{eb004a01-9b1a-11d4-9123-0050047759bc}\28 /f
  5. Close the Command prompt window
