Today, Microsoft announced that shipment of mixed reality development kits will start this month. The announcement come at the Game Developer Conference (GDC) in San Francisco. The Mixed Reality Development Edition headset will be made by Acer.
Acer Mixed Reality Development Edition headset specifications:
- Two high-resolution liquid crystal displays at 1440 x 1440.
- Display refresh rate up to 90 Hz (native).
- Built-in audio out and microphone support through 3.5mm jack.
- Single cable with HDMI 2.0 (display) and USB 3.0 (data) for connectivity.
The company also announced that mixed reality for Xbox One and Scorpio coming in 2018. The Project Scorpio console will launch this holiday season.

“We’re also excited to share that Windows Mixed Reality experiences will light up on other devices over time, beyond the desktop and Microsoft HoloLens. Our plan is to bring mixed reality content to the Xbox One family of devices, including Project Scorpio, in 2018.”
The company will also bring its mixed reality support to other Xbox One devices, such as the One and the One S.
