Microsoft has launched a free UWP Community Toolkit for developers. The toolkit will allow simplified app development and includes helper functions, custom controls, and app services that simplify developer tasks. UWP Comunity Toolkit can be used to build UWP apps for PC, Mobile, Xbox, IoT, and HoloLens. The developer can convert existing desktop apps to UWP using the Desktop Bridge.
The toolkit is available as NuGet packages that can be added to any project using Visual Studio. The Toolkit 1.0 can be used by UWP application written in C# or VB.NET, and is compatible with apps developed be Windows 10 SDK. The toolkit is open-sourced and free on GitHub.
