Xiaomi may build it’s own Processor

In a report published by Korea Times, Xiaomi may ditch Qualcomm processor and build its on processor. The Company is hosting a phone launch event on May 10, where it will unveil the Mi 5 Max phablet phone.

Among the current global top vendors, Samsung, Lenovo and Xiaomi all use Snapdragon CPU in their smartphones. Huawei and Apple use their own custom CPU chips.

Huawei is the world’s fastest growing smartphone manufacturer use its Kirin processor. Samsung does sell Snapdragon CPU phones and had a hand in developing the SD820, but it uses its own Exynos processors in many of its devices. The Samsung S7 is only available with a Qualcomm processor in the US, China and Japan. Everywhere else has the superior Exynos 8890 octa-core SoC.

If Xiaomi ditches Qualcomm and goes it alone, that leaves Samsung and Lenovo as the only major Snapdragon customers. Qualcomm charges too much that’s why most of the company building there own chips. Qualcomm needs to reduce its royalties if it wants to remain the top-selling processor vendor long-term.

Soon No Skype on Smart TV

Microsoft ends support for Skype on smart TV and Skype is leaving it up to smart TV manufacturers whether or not they decided to remove the app or service from their devices or continue to offer an unsupported version. There will be no updates to the application. This will also affect new account creation and password resets. This will only be available through

This may vary depending on the TV model. TV manufacturers may remove the Skype for TV application from some or all of their models. If you have questions, please contact your TV manufacturer for information on the availability of Skype for TV on your TV model.

Samsung has announced that it will remove the service the apps from their smart TV’s beginning June 2, 2016. According to Samsung, they will alert their customers to the change when applied.

As for the reason behind the removal, it seems as though Skype has telemetry indicating the most users are accessing the service from their smartphones while in the living room rather than on the big screen. While it makes financial and strategic sense to end Skype for TV support, it seems the second screen experience envisioned by smart TV manufacturers is continually losing ground to the readily available smartphone.

Samsung Gear 360: a 360-degree video shooter

Samsung Gear 360 an new 360-degree video recording device announced by samsung. The camera was announced alongside the reveal of the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge this evening at the company’s Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona, and it will be available in the second quarter of this year.

samsung gear 360

The Gear 360 is a tiny, double-lensed sphere of a camera that’s supposed to make shooting and sharing 360-degree photos and videos easy and approachable. (Let’s just say it — it looks like an eyeball.) The bottom of the camera is flat, so it can rest on most surfaces, and it also features a standard tripod mount. The Gear 360 is mostly featureless on the outside, with just menu, record, and power buttons and a tiny monochrome PMOLED screen dotting the white plastic finish.

Facebook and YouTube both embraced 360-degree content in 2015, but this small corner of the camera market is still looking for its first breakout star. And that could all change soon thanks to companies like Samsung, Nikon, GoPro, and even LG, which also announced its own 360 camera earlier today. More people will shoot 360-degree photos and footage this year than ever once these companies’ cameras are on the market.

Specifications are as follows:

  • Dual CMOS 15MP Sensors w/ F2.0 Fisheye lenses
  • Videos: Dual Cam up to 3840x1920px @30fps/Single Cam up to 2560x1440px @30fps
  • Images: Dual Cam up to 7776x3888px or 30MP / Single Cam up to 3072×1728 or 5MP
    Dimensions: 66.7 x 56.2 x 60mm
  • 1GB RAM and up to 128GB of microSD memory
  • Removable 1350mAh battery
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Wi-Fi Direct, BT 4.1, USB 2.0, NFC

Samsung Galaxy S7 video

Samsung’s Indonesian arm appears to have shown off the Galaxy S7 video almost a week earlier than planned. An unlisted commercial marked #TheNextGalaxy and posted to the branch’s official YouTube channel shows Indonesian archer Dellie Threesyadinda training while using the new phone.

The design appears to be very similar to last year’s Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, with a curved screen Edge variant on show. Galaxy S7 video doesn’t name the model being used, but Threesyadinda seems comfortable enough using it in a downpour, suggesting the rumored return to waterproofing is a go. The phone is also seen being used with a wireless charging pad.

A teaser website, also located in Indonesia, confirms the name Galaxy S7 and provides further hints: a page with bubbles and the caption “worry-less discovery” is further evidence for wireless charging, while a lock icon and “experience privacy at its finest” implies extra security, and “bring light to the night” alongside an image of a camera lens may mean better low-light photography.

Samsung Galaxy S7 leaked Photo

Later this month, Samsung will unveil its new Android flagship phones, the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. In recent weeks, there have been all sorts of rumors and leaks about the new devices, including their key specifications, and even a purported image of the front of the S7.

Now, a new image has been published by Vietnamese site, which it claims is of the rear of the Galaxy S7. The image appears to show the device with a plastic rear panel rather than glass; SamMobile speculates that this may be because the handset shown here is a pre-production prototype. The device will reportedly also have a magnesium alloy frame.

The Vietnamese report refers to various specs that line up with earlier reports, but adds that the Galaxy S7 will also include a high-quality DAC (digital-to-analog converter) component, and that this will be the ESS Sabre 9018 – the same chip used on LG’s V10.

It also notes that the handset’s 12-megapixel camera, featuring a Britecell sensor, will include enhancements for low-light photography, and mentions that the S7 will have a water-resistant body. The absence of a camera ‘hump’ on the device in the photo also lines up with previous reports that it would be removed on this latest addition to the Galaxy S series.

Samsung UBD-K8500 1st Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray player

Samsung UBD-K8500, the first Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray player, has gone on sale a bit earlier than expected. The device was announced at IFA last year, and scheduled to hit stores around March. However, there have been scattered reports that certain shops have already got the player in stock, while customers who preordered the device from Best Buy have been told it’s now shipping on February 10th. One store in Santa Monica which advertised the player on Friday seems to have sold out that same day, according to a Facebook post.

Why exactly the shipping date for the UBD-K8500 has been pushed forward is anyone’s guess, although it’s certainly not to keep up with a rush of 4K content. Although plenty of movie studios have announced films that will be released or re-released in the new format, it’s not clear if any are currently available nationwide. Launch titles, such as The Martian and Kingsmen: The Secret Service, are still listed as preorder only on Amazon, while the majority of confirmed films have uncertain release dates scheduled for sometime before the end of the year.

Thankfully, though, Samsung’s UBD-K8500 can also stream 4K content from providers like Netflix and plays regular Blu-rays, DVDs, CDs, and 3D discs. You know, that format that was going to be the next big thing just before it turned out UHD and HDR were actually the next big thing. And although 4K should have a longer shelf-life than 3D, there’s probably no rush to go out and grab a player yet.
