Android 8.0 Oreo Update for Xiaomi Mi A1 is now available for download

Xiaomi has pushed Android 8.0 Oreo update OPR1.170623. for Xiaomi Mi A1 smartphone. The update is rolling out over-the-air (OTA) in batches. However, to get the Android Oreo update, users need to download December update version 7.12.19.

Google’s latest Android 8.0 Oreo comes with new features like picture-in-picture (PIP) mode, Notifications Visual Cleanup, Notification Badges, Always-On Display Updates, Instant Apps, Autofill for apps, and much more. Check out full details below.

Android O allows you to launch a YouTube video in picture-in-picture (PIP) mode. This lets you use other apps while still watching the video. The video displays in a small window that you can drag to any part of the screen.

Notification Badges

Notification badges (or notification dots) appear on an apps’ icon to let you know the app has a notification for you. The badges display notifications associated with one or more notification channel in an app that you have not yet dismissed or acted on.

When you press and hold an app icon that’s showing a notification badge, the notification details will pop-up right on your Home screen. No need to go into the app.

Notification Channels

The notification channel feature gives you more control over which specific notifications you want to receive and how you want the alert to behave. Notification channels are categories of notifications available in an app. You can turn on only the notification channels you want and customize how they behave. Notifications of the same channel behave the same way.

Always-On Display Updates

The Always-on display will transition to an ambient display during an incoming notification for easier reading. To wake your device simply double tap the screen.

The new Search Apps field lets you find an app instantly and displays recommended apps you’re likely to use.

Autofill makes signing in to apps quick and simple. Now you can pull your saved password data from Google Chrome or other auto-fill services.

Android Oreo update OPR1.170623. for Xiaomi Mi A1 smartphones will gradually release to everyone. You can also check manually for updates, go to Settings > About device > System update.

Make sure you have enough charge on your device at least 60% to 70% before downloading the update.

Please upgrade to 7.12.19 (Android N) first before you can upgrade to 7.12.29 (Android O).

Snapdragon 845 announced, Check out full Specs and Features

Qualcomm has announced its latest Snapdragon 845 flagship chipset. The new Snapdragon 845 packs an octa-core CPU, clocked at up to 2.8 GHz, as well as a new GPU and AI platform, based on the Hexagon 685 DSP. According to the company, there will be an overall “25-percent performance uplift” over the previous generation.

The eight CPU cores also called Kryo 385 will bring better performance. The four cores are based on the Cortex-A75 architecture, while the other four are for efficiency, and based on the Cortex-A55.

The Adreno 630 GPU will handle the graphics department. Qualcomm promises 30% faster graphics and 30% better power efficiency with the new chip. Thanks to a 2.5x faster display throughput, a 2K x 2K display should be able to efficiently run at 120 Hz using the new GPU.

Qualcomm is also touting VR and AR capability right out of the box, including eye tracking, hand tracking, and multiview rendering. The new Hexagon 685 DSP will also work as an AI image coprocessor. This will make voice assistants three times faster than the previous generation. It will support Android 8.1 Oreo’s Neural Networks API for improved always-on keyword detection and super-efficient voice processing.

Qualcomm will start shipping the new chipset to smartphone manufacturers in early 2018. The first flagships with the Snapdragon 845 will be the Xiaomi Mi 7. Samsung Galaxy S9 will also feature this new chipset.

Today, Xiaomi has unveiled the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus budget devices in China. Xiaomi Redmi 5 will start at ¥799 ($120) and the Redmi 5 Plus set to go on sale for ¥999 ($150). Both phones feature new 18:9 displays as well as better camera imaging sensor with 1.25-micron pixels and a front-facing flash module for taking selfies in low-light conditions.

The Redmi 5 comes with a 5.7-inch HD+ panel with a resolution of 1440 x 720. There’s a Snapdragon 450 under the hood, along with a 3300mAh battery. According to the company, the device will be able to deliver a two-day battery life and standby time of 12 days.

The phone will cost you ¥799 ($120) for 2GB of RAM/ 16Gb model and ¥899 ($135) for 3GB of RAM and 32GB variant.

The Redmi 5 Plus will include features a 5.99-inch FHD+ panel with a resolution of 2160 x 1080. The phone is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 625 and comes with a 4000mAh battery.

The phone will be sold with 3GB of RAM and 32GB for ¥999 ($150), and a model with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage for ¥1,299 ($195).

Xiaomi has launched its Notebook Pro laptop today. The new Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro laptop comes with the 8th-gen Intel Core i7 processors which promise a 40% gain over last year’s processors. The new laptop also features a 15.6-inch display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection and NVIDIA GeForce MX150 Graphic card. The notebook also features a Touchpad with a built-in fingerprint sensor.

Today Xiaomi has announced Mi Mix 2, the successor of Mi Mix. The new Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 features a 5.99-inch display with 18:9 aspect ratio. The new smartphone is 2.5% thinner than Mi Mix. Under the hood, the device is powered by Snapdragon 835 processor coupled with 6GB of RAM. In terms of internal memory, you get three options to choose from 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB memory.

In terms of optics, you get the same primary camera as present on Xiaomi Mi 6. Mi Mix 2 includes a 12MP primary camera with Sony IMX 386 sensor which features 4-axis OIS and a single f/2.0 lens.

Android 7.0 Nougat update for Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 released

Xiaomi is now rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat update for Redmi Note 4 in India. However, the update is arriving as MIUI and not MIUI 9. It will still take a while for Xiaomi to roll out the MIUI 9 update to Redmi Note 4 handsets in India.

In addition, the new update also includes Android July security patch which addresses common vulnerabilities and exposures (CVE) in the open-source Android operating system. The update size is around 1.3GB.

Xiaomi Smart Shoes with Intel Chip launched in China

Xiaomi has officially launched its smart shoes in China. The company calls it – “90 Minutes Ultra Smart Sportswear.” Xiaomi Smart shoes are created in partnership with Intel.

The new Xiaomi’s Smart shoes support 60-day battery life and can track your movement from walking/running or climbing with the help of Intel’s Curie module. Also, you’ll get a report of distance traveled, your speed and calories burned.

The shoes also feature air cushions, anti-skid, soles with an arch design and antibacterial insoles. You will get four color options – Black and Surf Blue for men, Black and Pink for women. A special Blue Edition glows in the dark for all of you night runners.

Xiaomi Smart Shoes will cost you CNY 300 pair of shoes ($44/€41) and you can place a pre-order on Mi Home.

Xiaomi Mi 5c launched with Surge S1 CPU, 3GB RAM, 5.15-inch full-HD display

Xiaomi Mi 5c smartphone is now officially unveiled in China. The device is Xiaomi’s first in-house processor, called the Surge S1. The new octa-core Surge S1 SoC is built on the 28nm process and runs up to 2.2GHz.

The new smartphone also features a 5.15-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) curved glass display with a pixel density of 428ppi, 64GB inbuilt storage, and supports dual-SIM cards.

The Xiaomi Mi 5c runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow-based MIUI 8, and packs a 2860mAh battery with fast charging support. Xiaomi claims that the device is upgradable to Android 7.1 Nougat.

The device also sports a 12-megapixel camera with large 1.25-micron pixels, a f/2.2 aperture, and LED flash. At the front, there is an 8-megapixel camera with a f/2.0 aperture, and 27mm wide-angle lens. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac dual-band, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, USB Type-C, a 3.5mm audio jack, and FM radio.

The Surge S1 Processor includes a Mali-T860 quad-core GPU. There’s also a 32-bit DSP for better voice processing for calls, and also dual microphones for noise reduction. It also brings support for VoLTE.

The Xiaomi Mi 5c sports a metal unibody with Rose Gold, Gold, and Black color options. It will be made available in China on March 3 at CNY 1,499 ($212).
