Universe Sandbox Update 33 Patch Notes- August 17, 2023

Universe Sandbox update 33 is now rolling out on PC (Steam). According to the official Universe Sandbox patch notes, the latest update 33 added quality of life improvements and gameplay optimizations.

Since the last patch, players are facing a number of problems with the game. Today’s Universe Sandbox patch 33 will fix a few of these issues.

Check out more details below.

Universe Sandbox Patch 33 Notes – August 17, 2023

New

  • Added Jupiter & Orbiting Moons Near Sun simulation which shows Jupiter orbiting nearby the Sun with many moons orbiting it

Improvements

  • After hitting the Simulation Speed limit, selecting “Learn More” highlights the Gravity Accuracy Profile and allows you to launch the Advanced Sim Speed Controls guide
  • Added simulation descriptions and attribution to all choreography simulations
  • The Advanced Simulation Speed Controls tutorial has been overhauled to show more of the new gravity simulation improvements
  • Exploring Additional Features tutorial now uses the Land and Follow buttons to land on planets instead of pressing “c” on the keyboard
  • Minor text revisions to the Cosmic Microwave Background tutorial
  • Updated the Welcome to Universe Sandbox tutorial to add many Titans orbiting Earth instead of Moons
  • Updated superscript character for footnotes in simulation descriptions to “*” instead of “1

Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where tooltips were not appearing for some settings and properties
  • Fixed an issue where the Solar System – Live View – Planets, Moons, Spacecraft simulation was not updating the positions of objects to the current day and time

Simulation

New

  • Added a new N-body gravity integration method, the Hermite integrator, as the default gravity integrator to improve gravitational stability and performance of all simulations. Simulations from previous versions of Universe Sandbox are switched to the Hermite integrator by default upon load.
  • Different methods have been added to optimize gravity simulation using the Hermite integrator under Simulation > Gravity > Advanced > Integrator > Timestep Scheme
  • Additional settings and tooltips for changing or optimizing the gravity simulation methods have been added under Simulation > Gravity > Advanced

Improvements

  • Small objects colliding with gas giants now create a more realistic smaller heating ring after colliding instead of heating large areas of a gas giant
  • Updated Unity, the game engine we use to create Universe Sandbox, to version 2022.3.6
  • Choreography simulations are now much more stable and create the desired patterns, like this fish, before becoming gravitationally unstable and falling apart, as expected
  • Maximum simulation speed while maintaining stable orbits has been increased for most simulations

Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where ice giant were simulated as rocky planets because they did not have enough hydrogen
  • Fixed an issue where too many fragments could be generated due to spin fragmentation when the density of an object changes
  • Gas giants are no longer ripped apart due to Roche fragmentation when orbited by smaller objects

User Experience

New

  • Added the ability to check if a button has been selected a certain number of times in guides
  • Dropdown menus with many options can now “Show More” or “Show Less” to expose more options without becoming difficult to navigate
  • Additional options for coloring objects, trails, and their orbits have added to the View > Colors list
  • Options for visualizing objects trails have been added under View > Trails > Visuals > Trail Color
  • Additional options for simulating and smoothing trail visuals have been added under View > Trails > Advanced
  • Additional performance metrics and tooltips for gravity simulation have been added to the subsettings under Sim > Gravity > Advanced

Improvements

  • Replaced “Bodies” with “Objects” in Settings > Performance > Max Attracting Bodies and Max Non-Attracting Bodies settings
  • Settings > Performance > Max Attracting Objects and Max Non-Attracting Objects settings improved to include multiplier buttons and sliders to adjust values
  • Max Attracting Objects limited to 1 – 1,500, Max Non-Attracting objects limited to 1 – 30,000 to prevent simulation from crashing with too many objects
  • Gravity and Advanced Simulation settings have been merged and reorganized
  • Rewrote how we select objects to make it much easier to select large objects through clouds of dust and fragments
  • Slightly darkened the color of the bottom bar and some panels to improve contrast and make reading easier

Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where the 3D View in data views and object previews did not show non-Daylight view types for rocky planets
  • Fixed an issue where the Add tool did not automatically select an object the first time it was opened
  • Fixed an issue where Comic Sans was not remembered as the select font style between instances of Universe Sandbox
  • Fixed the state of View options saving correctly when saving the user interface state
  • Fixed an issue where the Object and Particle Scale view settings were always expanded and could not be closed
  • Fixed an issue where the cursor would not show up until you started typing in the feedback form
  • Objects no longer show up twice in the Add Tool after you search for an object and then close and reopen the Add Tool
