Google Android 8.0 or Android O may get an official announcement at Google’s I/O developer conference in May. Android O version will add Finger Gestures, Copy Less feature, and improvements to text messaging experience.
According to the new report, there are more features coming with Android 8.0 O. Upcoming OS may include new notifications, picture-in-picture mode, adaptive app icons like Google Pixel and more. Check out more details below.
Google Android 8.0 O (Oreo) expected features list:
App icon badges for active notifications
The new feature will enable app icons to have badges for active notifications. It will make easier for users to see the number of notifications for a given app just by looking at the home screen.
New notifications
There will be a new design for notifications or a totally new and improved notification system which is probably incorporated from the ‘Andromeda’ program which Google has been reportedly working on to migrate Chrome OS and Android OS into one single OS.
Picture-in-picture mode
Picture-in-picture mode was introduced for the Android TV. This new feature is expected to make its way to Android devices with Android 8.0 O.
Adaptive app icons like Google Pixel
Android 8.0 is reported to bring along adaptive app icons. This could be something like the Calendar icon on Pixel phones which shows the current date directly on the app’s icon.
Restricted background activities from apps like Chrome 57
Android 8.0 O is expected to bring Restricted background activities feature. Recently, Chrome 57 released with similar ‘stricter throttling policy’ feature which reduces power consumption.
MediaRecorder API improvements
Improvements in MediaRecorder API section would mean better audio and video quality of saved data. For the uninitiated, MediaRecorder API enables apps to record audio and video.
Smart text selection with Assistant integration
Android 8.0 or Android O will be featuring a smart way to copy/paste text between apps, and this will come with Google Assistant integration as well, as per the rumor.
We’ve to wait for Google’s I/O developer conference for official Android 8.0 O and its features announcement. You can take all these rumors with a grain of salt.
