VanMoof Error 25 has become a common topic of discussion among electric bike enthusiasts. This error code can be a real headache but don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. In this article, we’ll delve into what this error means, why it occurs, and how you can troubleshoot it effectively.
What is VanMoof Error 25?
VanMoof Error 25 primarily indicates a “brake switch/sensor fault.” This error usually pops up when one of the brake levers is being held while powering on the bike. It’s not just a VanMoof-specific issue; similar error codes appear in other electric bikes as well.
Why Does VanMoof Error 25 Occur?
Several factors can trigger this error. One common reason is holding down a brake lever while turning on the bike. Another issue could be a misaligned brake lever, which means the sensor isn’t in full contact. Sometimes, the rare-earth magnets in the lever might get dislodged during a ride or shipping, causing the error.
How to Troubleshoot VanMoof Error 25
Fix 1: Firmware Update
First things first, check if your bike’s firmware is up-to-date. You can do this via the VanMoof app. If an update is available, go ahead and install it.
Fix 2: Reset Your Bike
If the firmware is already updated, try resetting your bike. Press and hold the power button for two seconds until you see the reset symbol on the Matrix Display. Then, press either handlebar button to power the bike on.
Fix 3: System Restart
Still facing the issue? Try a system restart through the VanMoof app. Navigate to Garage > Help > System Restart. A boat horn will sound, and a boat will appear on the Matrix Display. After the restart, wake up your bike with a reset.
Fix 4: Brake Lever Adjustment
Inspect the brake levers. If you find a gap, adjust the lever to close it. This ensures that the sensor is in full contact.
Fix 5: Check the Magnets
Examine the rare-earth magnets in the brake lever. If any are dislodged, you’ll need to fix them back into place.
Fix 6: Identify the Faulty Lever
Unplug the brake lever wires one at a time to identify the faulty one. Once identified, you can either adjust it or reach out to customer service for further assistance.
Fix 7: Nut Adjustment
If the motor doesn’t start, twist the nut outward. If it doesn’t cut off, twist the nut inward.
