Sony sold 50 million PlayStation 4 worldwide

Today Sony has announced that they have sold 50 million PlayStation 4 units. The 50 million sales milestone includes sales of the original PS4 hardware, PS4 slim, and the higher-end PS4 Pro. Previously, PS4 hit the 40 million mark back in May of this year. The PS4 console was launched in November 2013.

Sony also said that “the best ever Black Friday week” sale also helped the sale figures. It’s unclear how many Xbox One units sold, as Microsoft hasn’t released sales data for the console. In recent times, the Xbox One was outselling the PS4 for past few months, because of smaller Xbox One S model with an aggressive price tag.

According to Nvidia estimates, the Xbox One had sold 29 million units as of August. Next fall Microsoft is slated to launch the 4K-capable high-end Project Scorpio console.
