Verizon acquiring Yahoo for $4.83 billion

Verizon today announced that it will acquire Yahoo for $4.83 billion. Verizon said that Yahoo will be integrated with AOL, which is also part of Verizon. Verizon will get Yahoo’s online brands and email service with around 225 million monthly active users worldwide. Verizon will gain access to the Brightroll programmatic ad service and other analytics services. Verizon acquiring does not include Yahoo’s cash or its stakes in Alibaba and Yahoo Japan.

Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer posted,

“This deal will help us achieve tremendous scale on mobile, opens the door to extensive distribution opportunities. I’m incredibly proud of everything that we’ve achieved, and I’m incredibly proud of our team. For me personally, I’m planning to stay. I love Yahoo, and I believe in all of you. It’s important to me to see Yahoo into its next chapter.”
